History

1980-1989
The current Chairman of the Group Dimitris Politis starts up PHARMACON Group business with Kallipharm pharmaceutical wholesaler. Since then, Dimitris Politis, pharmacist and holder of a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Patras, Greece, endeavours in a quest to turn pharmaceutical wholesalers from reactive suppliers into proactive partners to pharmacies.

1990-1999
In 1990 Dimitris Politis works with Vera-Maria Gazi, pharmacist with extensive working experience in the European market. They set up Pharmacon, the first pharmaceutical wholesaler to become actively involved in the marketing of medicinal and OTC products and their distribution for third parties (Glaxo).

Pharmacon Northern Greece S.A. is set up by pharmacist Lazarus Peppis that same year. Based in Thessaloniki, its primary object is to be agent and distributor of parapharmaceutical products in northern Greece. Today the company has been acquired by Korres Natural Products.

Around then, PharmaCare S.A. is set up and operates as:

  • agent for Clearblue (Unilever), Korff (Artsana), Merz (German pharmaceutical) Darphin Paris and Manicare, among others
  • distributor for Glaxo
  • manufacturer of Filovit and Filoskin beauty care products

Pharmacon Northern Greece is set up and operates as distributor of Korres and PharmaCare products.

In 1991 Pharmacon becomes the first Greek pharmaceutical wholesaler to be member of the European Association of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers (GIRP). It goes on to represent Greece for a number of years up until the Greek Wholesalers Association join in. Its customers receive exemplary service that complies with the Good Distribution Practice for Pharmaceutical Wholesalers set by the EU.

In 1997 Pharmacon and Kallipharm merge to establish Pharmacon S.A. That same year PharmaCare S.A. (a subsidiary of the Group, acquired by Sarantis Group in 2002) enables Greek pharmacies to expand their businesses and include leading technology products with a worldwide appeal (Clearblue, Korff, Contractubex etc.).

2000
In 2000 Pharmacon works with Estee Lauder to distribute Darphin products.

2005
In 2005 PharmaLogiscon S.A. is set up, a 100% subsidiary of Pharmacon. Based at the same head offices, its primary object is to be distributor for third parties and offer logistic and warehouse management services. That same year the Group develops its privately owned facilities in Metamorfosi, Athens.

2007-2008
The Group acquires VOULFARM S.A. pharmaceutical wholesaler in 2007 and FARMAKAT S.A. and S. VOULGARIS S.A. pharmaceutical wholesalers in 2008. That same year Pharmacon Northern Greece S.A. is sold to Korres Natural Products.

2010
Employing 142 staff and reporting €158,515,783.43 turnover in 2009, PHARMACON Group currently holds a strong position in the distribution of pharmaceuticals and other products for pharmacies.
